How to Treat Dry Flaky Skin

Have you ever experienced flaky skin? Flaky skin or when your skin is exfoliated naturally is a normal process of skin regeneration. The outer skin layer or epidermis layer consists of keratin cells which can age and exfoliate when they are exposed to weather and others external factors. This is what you call skin regeneration process.

However, if your skin exfoliates excessively, it can be a symptom of skin problems especially if it is followed by flaky and scaly skin with rashes. Healthy skin will feel smooth and soft instead of flaky and dry.

Treating your dry and flaky skin can be done by several ways:

1. Replace your skincare.
Choose the right skincare for your skin type. To avoid severe dry skin, you need to use hypoallergenic cleanser without excessive foam and added fragrance. Use cleanser that is made specifically for sensitive or dry skin such as Cetaphil Gentle Skin Cleanser.

2. Moisturize your skin regularly.
Moisturize your skin with light-weight moisturizer with no added fragrance after you take a bath. Repeat the application whenever you need it. Choose the moisturizer which is suitable for dry skin such as Cetaphil Daily Advance Ultra Hydrating Lotion or Cetaphil Moisturizing Cream.

3. Protect your skin against ultraviolet rays.
Your skin barrier is prone to damage if it is often exposed to sun rays. Protect your skin with sunscreen which is suitable for dry skin such as Cetaphil UVA/UVB Defense SPF 50 which also is suitable for any types of skin.

4. Avoid scratching your skin.
Scratching your skin can worsen your skin and cause skin infection. If you experience flaky skin, it is better to cut the peeled part and apply moisturizer right away.

If your skin condition is not getting better, you should seek for doctor consultation.
